Beauty in the Alley on the East End of West Main

Beauty in the Alley on the East End of West Main
July 11th we will have an unveiling party to celebrate the murals being put up in the alley of our buildings. Jim Sheehan and John Waite are the owners of several buildings on this block on the East end of West Main. The party will be at The Saranac Commons at 19 W Main on Thursday from 12-4. We will have refreshments and sandwiches in the building followed by discounted beer at the Black Label Brewing Company.
This year’s artists include Amber Hoit, Daniel Lopez, Brittany Trambitas, Danielle Davis and Hazel Miller. Each of them brings a unique perspective to a unique canvas.
We want to expand beauty to places where you don’t expect it to be. We find it essential to give life to the areas that are hidden, that are in the shadow, because it is positive for the human spirit. Beauty is inclusive. If it's exclusive, then it's not legitimate. Beauty is not restricted to place.
As you know, downtown Spokane has had its share of problems in the past, with many businesses driven outside of the downtown area. This will help bring more attention to our beautiful block and business. One thing to note that we have found on our building across the street at the Main Market is that the mural that was placed there 20 years ago has only been graffitied once. This is an indication that Spokane wants to see beauty. I feel that it is essential to get the artist's perspective rather than mine. To understand their idea of beauty. A special thank you to Jim Sheehan and John Waite (owners of the building’s) for their part in helping keep this end of the block beautiful. Jim has always been passionate about keeping the building’s both inside and out beautiful and at the forefront. While working on the structure and the bones of the buildings is important, keeping them beautiful makes it more inclusive and more inviting for all.
