WHY WE EXPLORE DEEP SPACE
WHY WE EXPLORE DEEP SPACE
Selkirk Alliance for Science has invited Sue Linch, Spacecraft Manager for the Lockheed Martin Lunar Exploration Campaign, to speak at a Power of Science presentation on “Why We Explore Deep Space”. The event is free to the public on July 26, 2025, 6:00 PM, at the Camas Center for Community Wellness, 1821 LeClerc Road North, Cusick, WA. All ages are welcome to attend.
Sue Linch is a graduate of Kellogg (ID) High School, University of Idaho (B.S. in Civil Engineering), and The George Washington University Joint Institute for Advancement of Flight Sciences (M.S. in Mechanical Engineering).
She has worked on space station and shuttle projects, Earth atmosphere and solar studies, deep space asteroid monitoring, and lunar communication and navigation systems. She is presently working to develop nuclear electric power and propulsion for applications in deep space or the space between earth and moon or moon’s orbit.
Space exploration brings together experts in science, technology, engineering, and math. Advances from those efforts are now built into every smart phone, and space exploration data is available for public research and development. The last three decades have seen a huge benefit to society from weather and fire predictions, navigation, communications, search and rescue techniques, plus planning and management of human and natural resources. Sue will describe which deep space and earth orbiting missions have helped those and other services.
This presentation is also supported by the Kalispel Natural Resources Department, Responsible Growth Northeast Washington, and Create Arts Center. A science door prize will be awarded free to one lucky person in attendance. Light refreshments provided.
