Today, and in the past, economic activities are important ways ofmaking connections between people. In the Maya area, modern-dayMexico and northern Central America, economies are lessstudied than other aspects of past Maya lifeways. In this talk, I userecently collected data about stone tool production to provideinformation about the Classic period Maya economy (600-900 CE).This lecture will use a case-study of stone tool producers westernBelize to explore the lives of Classic period Maya stone toolproducers, and how stone tools circulated throughout the economy.

ALL ARTISTS in Spokane and the surrounding areas are invited to attend the April 22nd meeting of the River Ridge Association of Fine Arts as a guest. You will meet other artists, hear an educational presentation (after all the business stuff is taken care of!), and learn of the opportunities RRAFA offers to its members. You will be invited (but not pressured) to become a member to take advantage of the showing and learning activities RRAFA offers. Dues are only $30 a year. We meet on the 4th Wednesday of every month at Spokane Art Supply.

Turnbull NWR and The Lands Council are excited to announce Earth Fest 2026.
Join us for an unforgettable morning of hands-on environmental action! Volunteers will have the chance to pot trees in our nursery, remove old fences, and participate in a forestry project, all to help preserve the beauty of this special place. When the work is done, tour a pop-up vendor fair featuring over 20 of the region's outdoor and environmental organizations, nonprofits, and agencies!
There will be several information and educational booths from partners such as Spokane Audubon, Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife, Washington State Parks, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and more!
The event will conclude with a guided hike by special keynote presentation by local author and naturalist Jack Nisbet.
A lunch of burgers and hot dogs is generously being provided by the Friends of Turnbull NWR.

The American Guild of Organists – Spokane Chapter presents its Organ Academy Recital. Each spring, the chapter offers low-cost organ lessons to students aged 12-18 in a program known as Organ Academy. The 16-week program culminates in a public recital performed by the young musicians highlighting their accomplishments and sharing their musical joy on St. John’s Cathedral Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ.
This year’s talented students are Gregory Buck, Thomas Dalton, Lincoln DeJong, Luke Fanning, Joseph Gaunt, Riley Jerdon, Karl Keener, Joel Korn, Anna Ries, Maria Ries, and Scarlett Thomsen. They are instructed by Henry Bauer, DMA; Helen Byrne, SPC; Marietta Hardy, Edward Hurd, and Joseph Schubert, PhD.

We'll provide you with the tools you need to make positive changes and lower your blood pressure.
Topics include: - DASH diet - How to reduce sodium in your diet - Physical activity - How and when to take your own blood pressure
Participants who attend all four weeks will receive a free digital blood pressure monitor after the final class.
This course typically costs $40 but is currently free thanks to the generosity of the Providence Inland Northwest Foundation.

Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson is bringing The Cosmic Perspective to the First Interstate Center for the Arts on Thursday, May 7, 2026.
Dr. Tyson has written and continues to write for the public. Among Tyson’s fifteen books is Origins: Fourteen Billion Years of Cosmic Evolution; the companion book to the PBS NOVA four-part mini-series Origins, in which Tyson served as on-camera host. The program premiered in September 2004 cementing Dr. Tyson as a household name.
For five seasons, Tyson appeared as the on-camera host of PBS NOVA’s spinoff program NOVA ScienceNOW, which is an accessible look at the frontier of all the science that shapes the understanding of our place in the universe.
