John Decker

President and General Manager

I’m so excited to introduce myself as the new President and General Manager of Spokane Public Radio. I’ve spent my entire career—more than 30 years—in public media, and I’m thrilled to bring that experience to SPR as we look toward the future together.

A little about me: I grew up on a farm in Wisconsin long before cable TV and the internet, where my love for radio took root. After college, I moved to San Diego, where I worked at member station KPBS FM & TV. Over my time there, I held several roles, including Director of Programming and Senior Director for Content Development. In addition to building the most listened to station in the market, I had the privilege of leading initiatives like the KPBS Podcast Network and the Explore Local Content Project, which gave independent producers a platform to tell diverse and compelling stories. It was deeply rewarding to help bring new voices and perspectives to our community.

At SPR, I’m eager to build on the station’s strong legacy while also exploring new ways to serve our listeners. Whether that’s through our legacy programs, connecting with new audiences, or deepening our community partnerships, I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work.

Outside of work, my hobbies are travel, running, and motorcycles. I can’t wait to explore all the beauty and culture the Inland Northwest has to offer. My wife and I are also looking forward to becoming a part of this wonderful community and getting to know the people who make it special.
