Spokane County Health Officer Bob Lutz is letting people know the county may be close to reimposing Covid restrictions.
On Thursday, the health district reported 138 new positive tests, the third-highest mark since the outbreak began. Today [Friday], the district reported 94 cases.
Lutz released a statement Friday that he termed a ‘Come to Jesus’ message.
“We have the highest incidence rate, to the best of my knowledge, when I looked at other counties, in the state. Our incidence rate is almost three times that, if not three time of the state as a whole. That’s just unacceptable. It’s also unsustainable," he said.
Lutz says the spread of the virus throughout the community is not limited to one sector.
“It’s disappointing. It’s frustrating, because we’re seeing a lot of cases in just a variety of different settings. The concerns are that efforts, especially by the larger school districts to bring young children back to in-person instruction, this could really limit that in the near future," he said.
Lutz says most of the Covid cases reported by the school districts were introduced from the outside, not through spread within the buildings themselves.
He says he hasn’t decided whether to bring back restrictions that have been imposed in the past. He says he doesn’t want to. But he also says many people have stopped taking Covid seriously.
