Naghmana Sherazi, Jonathan Bingle Will Move Forward To General Election After Recount

Spokane County election officials have recounted votes for two close Spokane County races, reaffirming an existing lead and a tie.

Naghmana Sherazi, a candidate for the Northeast Spokane city council district, will move on to the general election and face event business owner Jonathan Bingle. Sherazi works in the diversity and inclusion office at Gonzaga University. She finished just four votes ahead of Luc Jasmin, a day care owner.

That close margin triggered a recount.

In a tweet after the recount was released, Jasmin conceded the race and endorsed his former opponent, Sherazi.

The race for Rockford City Council was still a tie after the recount. Mark Lonam, Jr. won the primary with 38 votes. Candidates Ivan Willmschen and Rachelle Arriaga are tied for second with 34 votes each.

The Spokane County Canvassing Board will meet Thursday to certify the results and a tie breaker for the Rockford election will take place immediately following that meeting.
