Spokane County Sets New Covid Record, Passes Triple Digit Mark

Spokane COVID Response

Spokane County has blown past its previous high in confirmed coronavirus cases.

The Spokane Regional Health District reported 134 new cases on Friday and one new death. Forty-four people have died from the virus in the county. The previous one-day high had been 98, but the county has had at least five days recently with 90 or more new cases.

And now, triple digits.

“I think just going over that magic number of 100 does have a little bit of psychological angst to it because we’ve not been there," said Spokane County Health Officer Bob Lutz. "By the same token, as I shared with the group the other day, I think just looking at actual numbers are kind of meaningless because we’ve had days where we had 90 and then the next day we had 50. What does that mean?”

The health district reported 28 Spokane County residents are hospitalized, 44 overall. Spokane County has now had more than 2,500 Covid cases.

In the Idaho panhandle, it was a relatively sedate day with 66 new cases and 11 current hospitalizations.
