Spokane Public Schools Welcomes Students To Three New Facilities

The Spokane School District welcomed students back for the ’21-’22 academic year on Thursday.

Students at Glover and Shaw Middle Schools and On Track Academy are all learning in new buildings. Shaw and On Track are part of a campus operated by the city and school district that also includes the Hillyard Library and Northeast Community Center.

Former associate superintendent Mark Anderson says Shaw and the library share one facility.

“We have a glass wall that comes down during the day, that separates the Shaw learning commons from the Hillyard Library. But before school, the Hillyard Library isn’t open, the wall is up. Our students can access the Hillyard Library. Then, after hours, the Hillyard Library can access the Shaw learning commons too," he said.

Glover and Shaw are the first two of six new middle schools to open during a three-year period. The Denny Yasuhara and Pauline Flett schools will welcome students next fall. Sacajawea and Carla Peperzak schools will debut in two years.
