Spokane Sets New One-Day Covid High

Spokane COVID Response

Another new daily Covid record for Spokane County. Today [Thursday] the health district reported 175 cases, about 30 more than the previous one-day high.

The spike came during a period when the daily trend had seemed to stabilize. The average for the five previous days was about 65 cases per day.

The hospitalization numbers are slowly creeping up, which worries Health Officer Bob Lutz.

“I’m concerned about not only the individuals but also the stress on the staff. I do believe that there could be situations where, because of health care workers becoming infected or just because they’re burned out, I think there are significant stressors that could occur with the workforce in these hospitals," Lutz said.

The health district also reported four new deaths on Thursday, bringing this week’s total to a dozen and 77 since the pandemic began in March.
