Spokane Mayor Nadine Woodward urged the community to stay resilient, and continue to support its local businesses, during a virtual State of the city address Wednesday.
“One year ago our path looked a lot smoother,” Woodward said. “The economy was growing, consumer confidence and activity were strong. Businesses were expanding and hiring. The plan was to was to focus on growing that momentum already in place. Our work over the past year has since adapted. It now includes interim steps to support the small businesses that make up the backbone of our economy and preparing Spokane to be ready when the national economy begins to turn again.”
Mayor Woodward also highlighted the city’s efforts to provide more beds for the homeless this year, the downtown precinct and construction on the Podium sports stadium.
During her remarks she shared stories of struggling business districts across the city and encouraged the public to keep them in mind when they shop.
