A Washington state commission says Avista is on its way to meeting its renewable energy goals for the year, as required by state law.
Kate Griffith is a spokeswoman for the Utilities and Transportation Commission, which announced its finding yesterday [Thursday].
“In 2006, Washington voters approved the Energy Independence Act, which requires electric utilities like Avista to obtain a certain amount of their electricity from renewable resources, including wind, solar and hydropower. In 2019, at least 9% of the company’s electric load must be supplied using renewable resources,” Griffith said.
Griffith says Avista exceeded its goal by about 50%. Next year, the state will require Avista and other utilities in the state to increase to 15% the share of their electric loads generated by renewable energy sources.
Avista is required to file a report within two years that specifies which resources it used to meet the state mandate.
