From the Studio: Jazz Pianist Matt Herskowitz

As part of the Northwest Bach Festival, which begins today and continues through March 6th, Matt Herskowitz and his trio will be performing with cellist Zuill Bailey, who is the director of the festival. Matt is known for meshing classical and jazz ideas in his playing, and his unique style will definitely be on display during his next performance.  He talked with Verne about many things jazz and classical and even demonstrated his process using the music of Frederic Chopin.  He will be performing tonight, Friday, February 26th at 7:30pm at Barrister Winery.

Verne Windham got his start at Spokane Public Radio 20 years ago. “I came in to complain and they hired me.” He’s now the Program Director, as well as the host of Morning Classical and Concert of the Week. When choosing music for Morning Classical, Verne likes to keep the agenda as broadly defined as possible. For Concert of the Week, he focuses on the best of recent local performances, mostly classical in nature. For many years, Verne was also the conductor of the Spokane Youth Orchestra. He enjoys gardening, his vintage car and playing French horn.
