From the Studio: Cellist Mika Hood and the Coeur d'Alene Symphony

The Coeur d'Alene Symphony will be performing their final set of concerts this weekend, and Verne had a chance to talk with Principal Cellist Mika Hood about her role in this season finale.  The "Realm of Champions" concert features Edvard Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, Johannes Brahms' Double Concerto for Violin, Cello, and Orchestra, and Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 6.  Mika is the cello soloist, along with Dr. Philip Baldwin on violin, to be highlighted on the Brahms Double Concerto.  The Coeur d'Alene Symphony plays at the KROC Center in Coeur d'Alene this Friday, May 6th at 7:30pm and Saturday, May 7th at 2:00pm.

Verne Windham got his start at Spokane Public Radio 20 years ago. “I came in to complain and they hired me.” He’s now the Program Director, as well as the host of Morning Classical and Concert of the Week. When choosing music for Morning Classical, Verne likes to keep the agenda as broadly defined as possible. For Concert of the Week, he focuses on the best of recent local performances, mostly classical in nature. For many years, Verne was also the conductor of the Spokane Youth Orchestra. He enjoys gardening, his vintage car and playing French horn.
