Janet Phang and Spokane Symphony at Festival of Sandpoint

Janet Phang speaks with Verne in the KPBX studio in anticipation of  this weekend's performance with the Spokane Symphony at the Festival at Sandpoint. 

In this audio recording Phang plays two pieces:

1. the third movement of Piano Sonata No.3 by Alexander Scriabin 

2. Earl Wild's transcription of George Gershwin's Embraceable You

On Sunday, August 12, 2018 Phang will perform the last movemenet of Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No.2 with the Spokane Symphony at the finale concert of the 2018 Festival at Sandpoint in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Verne Windham got his start at Spokane Public Radio 20 years ago. “I came in to complain and they hired me.” He’s now the Program Director, as well as the host of Morning Classical and Concert of the Week. When choosing music for Morning Classical, Verne likes to keep the agenda as broadly defined as possible. For Concert of the Week, he focuses on the best of recent local performances, mostly classical in nature. For many years, Verne was also the conductor of the Spokane Youth Orchestra. He enjoys gardening, his vintage car and playing French horn.
