Sad News from the Spokane Public Radio Family

January 15, 2019

Dear Listeners and Donors,

I have the very sad responsibility to inform you that Spokane Public Radio Chief Financial Officer Linda Stowe has passed away at age 62. She had late-stage lung cancer.

After 28 years in the service of SPR, Linda’s contributions to the station are profound. She guided and guarded the station’s financial health through recessions and booms, through myriad technical and administrative changes, through fund drives and capital campaigns, and through most of the station’s nearly 40-year history. Linda’s spirit and legacy to SPR are present every time we turn on public radio in our region, and each time we record an interview or broadcast a program from our exceptional new facility.

Linda will be forever remembered and dearly missed for her direct manner and her unassailable honesty in dealing with people, as well as her meticulous accounting. But mostly we miss her care and kindness, her deep loyalty to “her” station members, and to her friends and co-workers.

Our thoughts are with her family at this difficult time, as well as to the many SPR members who had a personal relationship with her, some of these lasting decades.

There are myriad practical details to attend, but if you have donor or membership questions, please direct them in the future to SPR Membership Manager Beth Severn-Johnson. Business or billing questions should be directed to Business Manager Tami Tanaka. Any other questions should be directed to me, General Manager Cary Boyce.

We will have more information soon on recognizing and celebrating her public radio service and her memory at Spokane Public Radio.

Sincerely yours,

Cary Boyce,

President and General Manager
