Spokane’s top leaders have asked for Rachel Dolezal and two other people to resign from the city’s police ombudsman commission. Spokane’s mayor and City Council President Ben Stuckart say an investigation found the three members were involved in workplace harassment.
Stuckart says these allegations are unrelated to the recent spotlight on Dolezal about her race. A statement from Dolezal says she will not resign. Stuckart says Adrian Dominguez and Kevin Berkompas have asked for more time to review the allegations.
Stuckart: “We’ve been moving forward with police reform in this community, but this is definitely a step back. It’s disappointing, its upsetting, but it’s not lethal.”
The city council will review the members in a special meeting Thursday. The city hired lawyers in May to investigate whistleblower and workplace harassment complaints against three of five ombudsman commission members. The report says evidence confirms “a pattern of misconduct".
Dolezal stepped down this week as president of Spokane’s NAACP amidst a nationwide discussion about her race.
