Two North Idaho School Districts Try Again With May 18 Levies

Two north Idaho school districts are taking a second run at school levies that failed in March. The measures will appear on the Tuesday ballot.

In March, the Post Falls school levy won 49% support, failing just 33 votes short out of 29-thousand ballots cast.

It was one of several measures on the February and March special ballots in eastern Washington and north Idaho that saw lower levels of support than supplemental levies in recent years.

Superintendent Dena Naccarato says the district is running the same levy, two years for about five million dollars per year. She says a citizens committee is working hard to develop the support to nudge the measure over the 50% threshold.

The West Bonner County School District has more ground to make up. Its March levy won 46% support.

The district is proposing a two-year levy at about three-point-four million dollars per year. The district is touting that the levy rate per assessed valuation will remain the same as the current levy that expires at the end of June.

Both measures are replacement levies and on Tuesday’s ballot. The polls will be open from 8 to 8.
