Members of the contemporary dance company discuss their new performance

Vincas Greene, Lexie Powell and Anna Gyure of Vytal Movement Dance entered the KPBX studio with E.J. Iannelli to talk about the contemporary dance company's new performance, Sanctuary.

This production was inspired in part by Vytal Movement's new studio and performance space in downtown Spokane.

The concert features themed music and choreography from Hannah Donk, Melanie Rose Huff, Christopher Lamb, Powell as well as Greene, who is also the organization's artistic director.

Gyure, a recent graduate of Gonzaga University's dance program, performs in Sanctuary. It's her debut outing with the company.

Along with describing how the theme of "sanctuary" informs the dancers' physical movement and the choreographers' individual approach, the three noted why Vytal Movement has such a strong community focus.

They also explained why the intimacy of Sanctuary might make it an ideal outing for audience members who are new to contemporary dance.

There have already been two sold-out performances of Sanctuary. Another two performances are scheduled for this Friday (October 21, 2022) and Saturday (October 22) at the new Vytal Movement space at 7 South Howard Street.
