GU Dance Director Suzanne Ostersmith previews several upcoming performances

Suzanne Ostersmith, an associate professor and director of the dance department at Gonzaga University, joined E.J. Iannelli in the KPBX studio to offer details on multiple upcoming events throughout April and into May.

The first event on the GU dance calendar is the Student Choreography Concert at the Magnuson Theatre. It will be held first on Friday, April 14 and then again the following day. At this event the student choreography class of 2023 will present and perform their original works.

The next event is the 21st Annual Spring Dance Concert. This showcase of faculty-created choreography takes place on April 28 and 29 at the Myrtle Woldson Performing Arts Center.

Along with Ostersmith's own work Jazzin': The History of Jazz Dance and Music, which will tour to Italy during the summer months, the concert will include works from Gonzaga's 2023 Ballet III, Modern III, Pop Culture Dance and Musical Theatre Tap classes.

Ostersmith also discussed the very recent hiring of Stephen Cummins to direct the Myrtle Woldson PAC and announced to SPR listeners that Dancing with the Stars winner Derek Hough and his father Bruce will be coming to the same venue on May 8 for a talk on the intersection of dance and leadership.
