Dr. Paul Grove - Music from Around the World

Dr. Paul Grove will share Music & Stories from Around the World with his guitar at the Harrington Opera House @ 2 pm on October 29, 2023. Admission by donation at the door. Proceeds benefit the Harrington Opera House Society. Info at harringtonoperahouse.org or Linda at 509-253-4719. The historic 1904 Harrington Opera House is located in Harrington, WA.

Dr. Paul Grove simultaneously earned both a research degree (Ph.D.) and the equivalency of a performance degree (DMA) at the University of Arizona. This background helped to support and shape this program in which he will explore music from different cultural traditions: Korea, Ghana, Turkey, Ukraine, China, and South America. Variations with regard to folkloric and instrumental traditions from around the world will be presented. The intention is to create a more empathetic and peaceful world. Prominently featured will be the work “Farwardin” by Dr. Ustad Sarmast educator and composer in exile from Kabul Afghanistan.

And, specifically for the citizens of Harrington, WA, Washington there will be a performance of Dr. Grove’s transcription of “Green Fields and Meadows” by the nationally recognized composer George Frederick McKay who was born in Harrington.
