Award-winning novelist Alexis M. Smith will discuss how research shapes her fiction in this engaging writing series that takes place within the Inland Northwest Special Collections. Attendees will be able to ask Alexis questions about her writing process and more. Writing Education Specialist Sharma Shields and Archivist & Special Collections Librarian Dana Bronson and will provide resources to help writers uncover further inspiration in the files, maps, books, and online databases of the Central Library.

Alexis M. Smith’s writing has appeared in Tarpaulin Sky, Moss, Portland Review, Bon Appétit, The Spokesman-Review and elsewhere. Her first novel, Glaciers, will soon be reissued by Tin House. Her second novel, Marrow Island, is the winner of a Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association Award and a Lambda Literary Award. She lives in Spokane, Washington.
