Musical Migration Concert: An exploration of music composed by Norwegians who immigrated to the United States over the last two centuries

Musical Migration Concert: An exploration of music composed by Norwegians who immigrated to the United States over the last two centuries

Sons of Norway, Harald Haarfager Lodge in Coeur d'Alene presents this unique concert of songs highlighting the bicentennial of the first wave of immigration from Norway. Northwest Edvard Grieg Society’s Artistic Director and Producer, Soprano, Laura Loge, will be joined by Composer, Steven Luksan, to share long-forgotten works by Norwegian immigrant composers. This nearly forgotten repertoire includes nostalgic folk and classical songs, popular tunes, and solo piano compositions. There is no cost to attend the concert but tickets are required and a voluntary offering will be collected.

A Nordic inspired lunch of open faced sandwiches and soup will be served from 12-12:45pm. Seating is limited. $10 per person.  Tickets are required and payment will be collected at the door.

Cookies and coffee will be served after the concert.

Musical Migration is an exploration of music composed by Norwegians who immigrated to the United States over the last two centuries. This music reflects the composers who left everything behind for an opportunity in a new land, and who brought their music,  shaped by their struggles, new adventures, and longing for their homeland and distant families, with them.

This concert commemorates the 200th anniversary of the 1825 voyage of the sailing ship, Restauration, which left Stavanger, Norway, on July 4, 1825, the carrying 52 Norwegians looking for a better life in the United States. Arriving on October 9, 1825, these immigrants were followed over the next several decades by hundreds of thousands of other Norwegians .
