The Feast of King Midas Dinner & Lecture

The Feast of King Midas Dinner & Lecture

For its 75th anniversary celebration, the Spokane Society of the Archaeological Institute of America will be reconstructing (mostly) a 2,700-year-old funerary meal that the famous (and historical!) King Midas served guests at a feast honoring his late father. From ancient tomb pottery to your plate!

Recipes including an ancient ale recreation will be based on analyzed organic residue found on pottery from a vast tomb—belonging to King Midas—excavated in 1957 at Gordion in Central Turkey. Following dinner, a lecture on the "Great Tumulus of Gordion Excavation" by Dr. Richard Liebhart, THE expert on the tomb, its construction and contents for the past 30 years.
