Winthrop Snowshoe Softball Tournament

Winthrop Snowshoe Softball Tournament

The Winthrop Snowshoe Softball tournament is a popular annual winter event sponsored by the Winthrop Chamber of Commerce. Now in its third decade, this tournament is held every February on the three-day President’s Day weekend.

Over the weekend, up to eight local co-ed snowshoe softball teams converge on Winthrop’s ballfield. The weekend is full of good sport, great fun, and an out-of-the-ordinary event—one which is enjoyed by participants and spectators alike.

As the name implies, snowshoe softball is an actual softball tournament played in the snow. The participants are strapped into snowshoes. The teams must be comprised of equal numbers of men and women. To enable the participants and the spectators to keep track of the action, all of the balls are fluorescent yellow.
