PANHANDLE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA - FALL CONCERT
PANHANDLE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA - FALL CONCERT
The Panhandle Symphony Orchestra is excited to perform their Fall Concert for the musical enjoyment of our great community. It will be held on Tuesday, November 17th, 7:00pm at Lake City High School, in their auditorium. Conductor, Tim Sandford has chosen some very familiar pieces for our audience to enjoy, including a medley of songs from the well-known musical “Chicago” which holds the record as the longest-running American musical in Broadway history.
“Dances With Wolves” is a concert suite of songs from the movie and was written by John Barry. Barry’s composition features sweeping orchestral arrangements that reflect the vast landscapes and themes of the film. The score won the Academy Award for Best Original Score at the 63rd Academy Awards in 1991.
“Hoe-Down” from the ballet “Rodeo” is a significant piece of American music history. Originally composed in 1942 by Aaron Copland, features two American square dance tunes, notably incorporating folk elements that reflect the spirit of rural America. Its catchy melodies have been used in commercials and other performances, further embedding it in American culture.
Christmas songs will also be featured in the concert, beginning with the celebrated orchestral arrangement of “O Holy Night”. The original song was composed in 1847 and reflects the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. This arrangement is noted for its rich tonal colors and beautiful introduction which showcases the melody’s emotional depth. “A Christmas Festival” by Leroy Anderson will also be on the program.
These songs, as well as others will be presented Tuesday, November 17th, 7:00pm in the Lake City High School Auditorium. Our organization’s volunteer community members will present this free concert for the enjoyment of the entire family.
