Spokane city officials would like to hear from the public their opinions on a new section of Centennial Trail to be completed in the West Central neighborhood.
The area of interest will connect a section of the trail at Boone and Summit Boulevard to the trail at Pettit Drive and West Point Road.
City spokeswoman Marlene Feist says the survey asks how often people use the trail, if they use the portion of the trail in question, how often they would use it, and if they support that new section being developed.
“We're also looking for specific comments in there. Is there anything we could react to or change the project in any way, or provide additional information. So we're looking at it that way too from a technical standpoint. Does anybody have a great idea we haven't thought about?” Feist said.
In recent months several homeowners in that neighborhood were surprised to learn of the city's plans to finish that section of trail after grant money became available to make the project happen. Some of them have complained to city officials that various issues had not been addressed, like safety concerns about where the trail would cross driveways, erosion issues, and issues related to parking.
You can find a link to the Centennial Trail survey on the city of Spokane's website. 1,100 responses have been tallied so far. Those who live in the neighborhood have been mailed post cards inviting them to participate. The deadline is May 22.
