Washington U.S. Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers has taken another step toward serving a ninth term.
She cruised to a big lead in her race against four candidates, winning about half the vote. Her apparent opponent will be Democrat Dave Wilson. The centrist won the second position on the November ballot after a more progressive Democrat, Chris Armitage, dropped out of the race recently.
Wilson has run television commercials, focusing on the need for change.
“To me, it’s easily the most important election of my lifetime. I think there’s a choice we all have to make and that’s America or this reckless president and I believe that the congresswoman has made her choice," Wilson said.
McMorris Rodgers’ Republican colleague, Dan Newhouse, easily won the Fourth Congressional District primary. He will run against Democrat Douglas McKinley in the general election.
