Spokane Poetry Showcase: Three Poets Laureate

Spokane continues to grow its reputation as a regional hotbed of poetry and literary events. On any given week, the choice is often not whether there is a reading, but  which of several competing events to attend. One of the newest reading series is the Spokane Poetry Showcase, coordinated by poet Denis Held.

The most recent showcase, held at Spokane’s Unitarian Universalist Church on Sunday, March 10th featured all three of Spokane's past and present Poets Laureate reading together for the first time. Thom Caraway, who was Spokane’s first civic laureate from 2013-2015, Laura Read who held the position from 2015-2017, and the current laureate, Mark Anderson.

Chris Maccini previously worked at SPR as Morning Edition host and producing arts and special programming such as The Bookshelf, Poetry Moment, Northwest Arts Review, special features and more.
