State Closes Streets As It Prepares More North-South Freeway Construction

Washington Department of Transportation

North-South Freeway work continues to inch south into Spokane.

The Washington Department of Transportation says it has closed several east-west streets in the Minnehaha neighborhood that cross railway lines. The agency’s Ryan Overton says crews will move the lines about 40 feet to the west to clear the way for freeway construction.

"There’s going to be a lot of earthwork moving," Overton said. "A lot of streets around that area are going to be permanently closed, including Bridgeport, Fairview, Cleveland, Grace, Marietta and Jackson Avenues. Carlisle, Upriver and Euclid will remain open for those east-west crossings.”

He says those streets will be closed over the next several days. Some projects in those areas have already started.

Overton says transportation crews are finishing up bridge projects on Freya, north of Francis, and some paving in that area.

The Department of Transportation has more about these closures on its website.
