Washington To Distribute Face Coverings To Spokane Social Service Agencies

Doug Nadvornick/SPR

Spokane County will soon distribute face coverings to local non-profits to distribute to individuals whose income is 200% or less of the federal poverty level. Simone Ramel-McKay from the emergency management division says her office expects to receive about 320,000 masks next month.

"We have been reaching out to all the agencies who are human service agencies who support individuals living at a lower income. These agencies will then, once these shipments come in, they will be contacted by me, probably, via email to let them know the shipment is in and how we can have them come pick up the masks for their agencies," she said.

Ramel-McKay says the state estimates it will have about two cloth masks for every person who falls under the income guidelines.

Next week, Greater Spokane will distribute personal protective equipment to small businesses and non-profits.

Spokane County officials bought the equipment – everything from hand sanitizer to face coverings - using federal disaster aid allocated to the county.

This week, Greater Spokane is registering companies that want to acquire some of that. You can go to its website if you’d like to reserve some of that for your company.
