The Covid train continues to roll in Spokane County. The health district on Tuesday reported 234 new cases. Taken over a two-week period, that’s about 560 cases per hundred thousand residents.
Only one new person was admitted to the hospital for Covid. 108 people are being treated for the virus in Spokane’s four hospital, 74 of those are from Spokane, 34 from other places.
230 Spokane County residents have passed from the coronavirus.
Fifteen more people have tested positive in the three northeast Washington counties; 14 of those in Stevens County. 209 people have tested positive in those counties during the last two weeks. Ten people have passed this year.
State Health Officer Kathy Lofy says every county, rural and urban, share in the statewide surge and that’s why the governor announced new restrictions. Lofy spoke Sunday during the governor’s news conference.
“This increase is simply not sustainable. We will eventually exceed the capacity in our hospitals to adequately care for all patients, including patients with and without Covid and, ultimately, will lead to more deaths. When cases are accelerating, we need to act early because the effects of the measures we put in place this week will not be shown in the data for another three weeks," she said.
In north Idaho, the Panhandle Health District reported 204 new cases on Tuesday. Idaho is in a modified phase 2 because of the surges in many parts of the Gem State.
