Idaho state tax return deadline is on Monday

State tax commission offices in Coeur d'Alene and Lewiston are open on Monday.

The deadline to file your federal tax returns has been pushed back to Monday this year. That’s also the date by which Idaho residents must file their state tax returns.

“If they owe taxes, they can go online to our website to pay with our free quick pay service. If they want to e-file their taxes, we have links to software providers, on our website, that provide free e-filing of both your federal and state tax returns," said Renee Eymann from the Idaho State Tax Commission.

If they can't make Monday's deadline, she says people can buy themselves extra time to turn in their state returns.

“You can get an extension for six months if you pay enough of your total tax due by April 18. To qualify, you either need to pay 80% of the estimated tax you owe for 2021 or 100% of the total tax reported on your 2020 income tax return," she said.

Eymann says the tax commission offices in Coeur d’Alene and Lewiston will be open Monday from 9-4 for people who want help in person. If you want to file or pay your taxes online, the commission has links on its website to help you with that.
