Kelowna, BC singer finds a prominent place in Native music industry

Singer/songwriter Kelly Derrickson has won several Native American Music Awards during the last five years.

Kelly Derrickson adds another Native American Music Award to an already impressive resume.

Singer/songwriter Kelly Derrickson from West Kelowna, British Columbia is becoming a big name in the Native American music industry.

She recently collected a Native American Music Award, the latest of several honors she has won in that competition during the last five years. She won the Best Folk/Americana Recording Award for her song “I Am Mother Nature.”

Derrickson recently told Doug Nadvornick that she writes and performs music that is uplifting and meant to inspire.

Doug Nadvornick has spent most of his 30+-year radio career at Spokane Public Radio and filled a variety of positions. He is currently the program director and news director. Through the years, he has also been the local Morning Edition and All Things Considered host (not at the same time). He served as the Inland Northwest correspondent for the Northwest News Network, based in Coeur d’Alene. He created the original program grid for KSFC. He has also served for several years as a board member for Public Media Journalists Association. During his years away from SPR, he worked at The Pacific Northwest Inlander, Washington State University in Spokane and KXLY Radio.
