2016 at SPR

Jan/Feb/Mar

The “Fall Pledge Drive” was moved to January, after having been cancelled due to Windstorm in November.

The Jan. 16 KPBX  Kids’ Concert featured the Spokane British Brass Band, at the Bing Crosby Theater.

Open House for the new home of Spokane Public Radio, at Fire Station 3, was held on January 23, a few days after SPR’s 36th Anniversary. There was a plug-in ceremony at 1 p.m.

Recording & Video Sale was held at The Lincoln Center, Feb 20-21.

The March 5 KPBX Kids’ Concert was a dance party with Broken Whistle and the Kelly Irish Dancers at the Riverside Place Auditorium

Seven winners from the Coeur d’Alene Symphony Young Artists’ Competition performed live in the performance studio.

SPR’s Forum highlighted Emergency Preparedness broadcasted live from Spokane City Hall chambers on March 16, with a panel discussion moderated by Steve Jackson.

 

Apr/May/Jun 

The April 2 KPBX Kids’ Concert featured Sourdough Songs - Music from the Alaskan Klondike, performed by Brad Keeler and Linda Parman, at the Bing Crosby Theater.

MusicFest Northwest  students performed from the new performance studio during the Morning Classical program on May 11, 12 and 13.

A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor presented a Sold Out performance at the INB Performing Arts Center on May 14.

SPR hosted an Energizer Station for Bike to Work Week on May 25.

SPR Goes to the Movies presented the Buena Vista Social Club as the annual Volunteer Thank you Event on June 9, at The Bing.

Volunteer producer Emmet Stackelberg turned the 2015 StoryCorp recordings made at SFCC into two half hour programs that aired on June 21.

The KPBX Kids’ Concert on June 24th, at the Bing was a Piano Bench program hosted by Jim Tevenan and featured area pianists.

 

Jul/Aug/Sept

The KPBX Kids’ Concert featured the Meshugga Daddies performing Klezmer music at the SCC Lair Auditorium on July 15.

SPR had a booth at Art on the Green in Coeur d’Alene, August 5-7.

SPR had a booth at the Season Arts Preview at Comstock Park on September 5, in conjunction with the annual Symphony Labor Day Concert.

SPR was a media sponsor for the 2nd Annual Chinese Lantern Festival in Riverfront Park from September 23 through October 30.

 

Oct/Nov/Dec 

The KPBX Kids’ Concert featured bluegrass band Heartbreak Pass on Oct 1 at Riverpark Square.

SPR Presents: Mark and Maggie O’Connor - American Classics, in concert at The Bing on Oct 6.

Verne Windham & Carlos Alden hosted the live broadcast from the Fall Folk Festival (at SCC Lair Auditorium) on November 12.

Lourdes Garcia-Navarro replaced Rachel Martin as host of Weekend Edition Sunday on NPR.

The KPBX Kids’ Concert on November 19 was a Sing-Along with Jen Edgren & Steve Simmons at The Bing.

Chris Thile took over as host for A Prairie Home Companion on Garrison Keillor’s retirement.

Ask Me Another replaced Car Talk on both the KPBX and KSFC schedule.
