Spokane Youth Ballet Summer Concert: Hansel and Gretel and Sleeping Rosa

Spokane Youth Ballet Summer Concert: Hansel and Gretel and Sleeping Rosa

Spokane Youth Ballet's 2025 Summer Concert features two colorful tales of family and friendship.

"Hansel and Gretel," based on the Grimm fairy tale, tells the story of a brother and sister abandoned in the forest by their impoverished family. After discovering an edible house in the forest, their lighthearted adventure becomes dangerous when the seemingly-kind inhabitant turns out to be a wicked witch! Can Hansel and Gretel escape the witch and find their way home? Students of the Academy of Dance are joined by Special Guest Artists Elizabeth Booth, Stephen Everson, and former Academy student Joseph Boswell in this magical tale.

In a unique twist on an old classic, "Sleeping Rosa" introduces us to a family of women in Spanish Harlem. Rosa is eagerly planning for her quinceañera, but when family conflict gets in the way, things take a dark turn. Featuring SYB company dancers and Special Guest Artists Elizabeth Booth, Stephen Everson, and Joseph Boswell, this colorful and heartwarming contemporary ballet reminds us that love conquers all.

The concert is approximately 2 hours in length including a 20-minute intermission.
