Spokane Police Investigate Officer-Involved Shooting

Spokane police are investigating the fatal shooting of a suspect believed to be connected to an armed robbery at the Safeway store on Northwest Boulevard Tuesday morning.

Police spokesman John O'Brien says the suspect assaulted a store employee as he left the grocery store. O'Brien says the man fired at least one shot in the direction of witnesses who attempted to follow him.

The suspect got in his car and took off. O'Brien says police located him. He says the suspect's car hit a police vehicle near Madison and Sinto. The man got out and took off on foot. An officer fired and hit the man. The suspect died at the scene. The location is adjacent to the studios of Spokane Public Radio.

The names of the officers and the shooting victim have not yet been released. Because the shooting involved an officer, the multi-agency Spokane Investigative Regional Response Team has joined the case.
