The Spokane Symphony is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the moon landing this weekend with a special performance that features three space-themed music selections.
Those selections include Holst’s The Planets, Berlioz’s Around the Earth in 90 Minutes, and Debussy’s Claire De Lune, with special guest conductor Roger Kalia.
Astronomer Dr. Jose Francisco Salgado, who presents “Science and Symphony” films around the country, will also be on hand with three film presentations to go with the musical selections.
Steve Jackson spoke with Salgado this week about the visual media he put together. Also speaking at the event is Spokane astronaut Anne McClain.
The concerts are Saturday at 8 p.m., and Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox. Doors open 90 minutes before the concert. There is a pre-concert discussion one hour before each show with the conductor and the two guests.
