Symphony Week 2016: Concertmaster Mateusz Wolski with Music Director Eckart Preu

Thursday's first Symphony Week interview featured concertmaster Mateusz Wolski as well as Music Director Eckart Preu.  Matuesz and Eckart performed a couple of works for us, including Massenet's Meditation from the opera Thais.  Matuesz also chatted with Verne about his musical past and why he loves playing with the members of the Spokane Symphony.

Symphony Week 2016 is a week-long series of feature interviews with various staff, musicians, and listeners of the Spokane Symphony leading up to their season opener, which happens this weekend, September 17-18 at the Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox.

Verne Windham got his start at Spokane Public Radio 20 years ago. “I came in to complain and they hired me.” He’s now the Program Director, as well as the host of Morning Classical and Concert of the Week. When choosing music for Morning Classical, Verne likes to keep the agenda as broadly defined as possible. For Concert of the Week, he focuses on the best of recent local performances, mostly classical in nature. For many years, Verne was also the conductor of the Spokane Youth Orchestra. He enjoys gardening, his vintage car and playing French horn.
