Symphony Week 2016: Jorge Luis Uzcategui and Kristina Ploeger

This is Symphony Week, and today we featured Assistant Conductor Jorge Luis Uzcategui and the new Director of the Spokane Symphony Chorale Kristina Ploeger.  Jorge talked about his upcoming concert engagements with the symphony as well as the symphony's education program Music Innovates.  Music Innovates is in its second year and aims to bring music education opportunities to students in schools throughout Spokane.  Kristina talked with Verne about her new position and goals for her first year directing the symphony's main singers.

Symphony Week 2016 is a week-long series of feature interviews with various staff, musicians, and listeners of the Spokane Symphony leading up to their season opener, which happens this weekend, September 17-18 at the Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox.

Interview with Kristina Ploeger, Spokane Symphony Chorale Director

Verne Windham got his start at Spokane Public Radio 20 years ago. “I came in to complain and they hired me.” He’s now the Program Director, as well as the host of Morning Classical and Concert of the Week. When choosing music for Morning Classical, Verne likes to keep the agenda as broadly defined as possible. For Concert of the Week, he focuses on the best of recent local performances, mostly classical in nature. For many years, Verne was also the conductor of the Spokane Youth Orchestra. He enjoys gardening, his vintage car and playing French horn.
