(part of an occasional music series)
Dozens of bands play under the jam-band genre that once made famous (or infamous) the Grateful Dead. But few have jammed, toured, and stayed together for close to 30 years, gaining a cult following similar to the Dead’s. Widespread Panic has. The Georgia-based band kicks off a new tour tonight in Boise, and Saturday in Spokane to a sold out crowd. I spoke with percussionist Domingo “Sunny” Ortiz on day one of their spring tour. They spent Thursday in Boise to prep for the tour and work out first show jitters.
Widespread Panic plays at Spokane’s Fox Theater on Saturday night.
