Eleventh Annual Guatemala Commission Celebration Honors 66 Years of Service and Global Partnership

Spokane, WA — The Guatemala Commission of the Catholic Diocese of Spokane invites the community to the Eleventh Annual Guatemala Commission Celebration, honoring 66 years of service and the long-standing partnership between the Diocese of Spokane and the Diocese of Sololá, Guatemala.

The celebration will take place on Monday, April 27, 2026, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Barrister Winery in Spokane. Admission is free, and guests are welcome to enjoy complimentary appetizers, coffee, and water. Wine will be available for purchase.

This annual gathering highlights the enduring collaboration between the churches of the Catholic Diocese of Spokane and the Diocese of Sololá, supporting vital ministries in pastoral care, medical services, and education throughout Guatemala.

A featured presentation will be given by guest speaker Lourdes Tzoc, director of Nawal Estéreo Radio, the first lay woman to lead the station. Originally founded to support literacy and basic education in K’iche’ and Kaqchikel languages, Nawal Estéreo Radio has grown into a trusted source of local news, health and safety information, agricultural guidance, and Catholic programming. Broadcasting in both Mayan languages and Spanish, the station plays a critical role in preserving cultural identity and strengthening communication among remote Indigenous communities in Guatemala’s highlands.

The evening will also include live and silent auctions featuring unique items and experiences, along with handmade artisan goods offered through the Family to Family program.
