March 24th, 2024 (Coeur d’Alene, ID) – The Art Spirit Gallery welcomes spring with their April exhibition “Cultivation”, featuring works by James Bason, Charlie Knapp, and Sheila Evans.
“Cultivation of mind should be the ultimate aim of human existence” B.R. Ambedkar once said. ‘Cultivation’ at The Art Spirit Gallery showcases three very different artists who have come to cultivate their own creative paths in such different and varied ways, all growing crops of work that are nurturing to the soul. “These three artists are inspired by what resonates within themselves through their connection to the natural world” said gallery owner Blair Williams. “We are always excited to share with visitors to the gallery, the inspiration that each of these artists bring to their work. It connects the viewer on an entirely new level, and moves them.”
Join us on Saturday, April 6th for the opening of the exhibit. Enjoy coffee, cookies, and artists on site to answer questions.
In April the Liberty Gallery is hosting a group display titled "Enigma", featuring works by members of Spokane Print & Publishing that are created using a wide variety of printing techniques. The print medium, in all it's forms, and possibly all art in general, is enigmatic. From inspiration to its processes, printing is mysterious and provisional. This show emphasizes the unseen hand, the errant, the wayward, the strange, and the ephemeral. From book artistry to relief carving, from wood type to collage, the artists of Enigma demonstrate the many processes that make their art vital. The show is at the Liberty Gallery from April 1– April 27 ~ the opening night reception to Meet the Artists is April 4th from 5-8pm.
CJ Morrison is a Spokane artist who creates artwork out of wood strips that are stained and formed into intricate geometric patterns, and mountain landscapes. CJ will be the guest artist at Pottery Place Plus for the month of April ~ the gallery is located in the Historic Liberty Building at the corner of W. Main & N. Washington Street. Stop by on First Friday April 5th from 5-9pm to see CJ's work and meet the artist in person!

Terrain Gallery is pleased to present, ‘Everywhere the Sun Touches’ by Columbus, OH artist Dustin Brinkman.
‘Everywhere the Sun Touches’ explores the liminal spaces between departure and arrival. Using Midwestern iconography, Brinkman's work speaks of the connection between personal identity and collective spaces, evoking a sense of nostalgia and introspection. In this body of work, boundaries are blurred between home and house – offering a unique perspective on the journey of coming, going, and belonging.

Step aboard the scholarly voyage into Edvard Grieg's Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 16, at Holy Names Music Center, where Dr. Archie Chen, our Co-Executive Director and virtuoso extraordinaire, will serve as your captain and guide. As we set our sights on the Musicfest Young Artist Competition, Dr. Chen brings to the table not only his illustrious history as a former Young Artist victor and seasoned adjudicator of Musicfest Northwest but also his rich experience of performing with global symphonies, including the revered Spokane Symphony. This masterclass, coined "Grieg's Piano Concerto: Navigating the Fjords of Piano Mastery," promises a blend of rigorous academic inquiry and spirited exploration.
Our expedition will dissect the concerto's first movement, Allegro molto moderato, with a keen eye on its dramatic introduction, the lyrical narratives inspired by Norway's natural beauty, and the technical challenges that demand both precision and passion. Dr. Chen's unique perspective as a performer who has navigated the complex dynamics of solo and orchestral collaboration will provide invaluable insights into crafting a performance that speaks both to the adjudicators' criteria and to the collaborative essence of concerti.
Prepare to engage with the music not just as students but as storytellers, embarking on a journey that transcends mere technical proficiency to embrace the emotive power of Grieg's masterpiece. This seminar is more than a preparatory class; it's an academic and artistic pilgrimage designed to forge a deep, personal connection with the music, ensuring your performance narrates a tale as compelling as the fjords themselves. In a masterclass setting, I will work closely with students, offering a hands-on experience to further enrich your understanding and interpretation of the concerto. Space in this transformative seminar is limited, so I encourage you to register as soon as possible to secure your place on this unique musical voyage.
So, refine your skills, ignite your interpretive fire, and let Dr. Chen lead you through this musical odyssey with the perfect blend of scholarly insight and adventurous spirit. Beware, though—the path to piano mastery is fraught with technical krakens and interpretative challenges, ready to be tackled with both seasoned expertise and wisdom. And once the hard work is done, join us for a pizza party to celebrate your achievements and mingle with fellow music enthusiasts!
