Join local historian Dr. Dave Beine for a three-hour interpretive bus tour across the Palouse to the site of one of the region’s most tragic episodes.

In late September 1858, following the defeat of Col. Edward Steptoe, Col. George Wright launched a campaign intended to “subdue the Indian tribes of eastern Washington by any means necessary.” When Yakama Chief Qualchan and other Indigenous leaders came to surrender, Wright ordered Qualchan and six other men hanged.

Travel with Dr. Dave to the site of the hangings, where he will share the history of this pivotal and deeply troubling chapter in the region’s past, placing the events in their broader historical context and exploring their lasting significance.
