Jim Zimpel, Associate Dean of the College of Arts & Architecture and an Associate Professor of Sculpture + Extended Media at Montana State University in Bozeman presents a visual art exhibition in the discipline of Sculpture at the SFCC Fine Art Gallery. Zimpel states, “My work constructs factual and imaginary entry points and rituals-they are the means to process, explore and understand things that are actually, or perceived as, inaccessible.”
Local domestic violence service providers throughout Spokane invite you to attend a powerful evening of remembrance and hope. This gathering will also serve as the launch of a month-long effort to inspire community members to take action this October during Domestic Violence Action Month (DVAM). Since 2019 Gonzaga University has hosted an annual Spokane Candidates Climate Change Forum, a non-partisan event that invites candidates for local office to share with voters and community members what they would or would not do about climate change if elected. After the primary election, all candidates for the selected offices are invited to attend. The Spokane Folklore Society hosts its 1st Wednesday Contra Dance on October 1 at the Woman's Club Hall beginning at 7:15PM with a newcomer session followed by a two hour dance starting at 7:30PM. Karen Wilson Bell will teach easy to learn dances back by the old time fiddle band River City Ramblers. Our community dance is fun and everyone is welcomed. No partners necessary. General admission is $10 and SFS Members & Students $7.

INTO AFRICA AUCTION, October 2 - Make a world of difference a world away by attending Partnering for Progress annual dinner and auction to raise funds for our work in Kenya. African singers will entertain and Feast World Kitchen will serve an authentic Kenyan buffet. Whitworth University welcomes renowned geneticist Francis S. Collins, M.D., Ph.D., former director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), as the featured speaker at the President’s Leadership Forum this fall.
Collins is one of the best-known scientists of the current era. He served as director of the NIH for 12 years under three presidents. He is known for his discoveries of disease genes, for leading the Human Genome Project, and for championing the harmony of science and faith.
