Jan. 5, 2023: The Root Experience, improv & more

TA(P) this week looks at a new arts festival, a chamber concert, films and an improv show

This week's episode of the Thursday Arts (P)review — where the "p" is parenthetical because we look both forward and back — includes the following:

  • A fresh interview with Olivia Evans, TS the Solution and James Pakootas about their new event The Root Experience. They just received Spokane Arts Grant Award funding to set up a two-day cultural festival as well as an artist's residency to develop a film score.
  • An in-studio performance by cellist Kevin Hekmatpanah and pianist Yoon-Wha Roh. Their “Great Masterpieces for Cello & Piano” is this weekend (Jan. 7) at the Kroc Center in Coeur d’Alene.
  • An interview with the Spokane Civic Theatre's Kearney Jordan, who talks about the launch of their Improv Showcase on Jan. 7. The show is led by MGTeams and will incorporate Civic Academy students.
  • A sampling of the Movies 101 crew's favorite movies from 2022. The full program airs on Fridays at 6:30pm on KPBX.

Intro music got you tapping your toes? It's "Grass Roots" by Andrew Hill.

The Thursday Arts (P)review airs every Thursday at 12pm on KPBX with a roundup of arts-related news and information from across the Inland Northwest.
