Health care providers are preparing for an increased demand for Covid vaccine now that 12-to-15-year-olds are eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine. Schools are among those that are stepping up to fill that demand.

Washington opens Covid vaccines to all adults, as well as 16- and 17-year-olds, on Thursday. Health providers say they’re bracing for a big rush of people who have waited patiently for their turn.

For the last few months, Washington has limited who has access to coronavirus vaccines. But those limits go away on Thursday. All adults and 16- and 17-year-olds will be eligible to apply for vaccination appointments.

Washington health officials say the Covid supply chain from the federal government is becoming a little more certain.

Washington state health officials say nearly one million residents have received at least one of the Covid 19 vaccinations in the state. That's a major mile marker as they push to meet a goal of vaccinating 45,000 per day.

Even so, they say they are seeing inequity in the number of minorities who are receiving the shots.

Hospitals around the Northwest are busy vaccinating their highest-risk employees.

The Providence Health System in Spokane began that work last Friday. Spokeswoman Beth Hegde says inoculations will continue all week at Sacred Heart.

Covid Vaccinations Begin In Inland Northwest

Health care organizations have begun to inoculate their employees with the new Pfizer Covid vaccine.

Early Friday morning, transplant surgeon Dr. Okechukwu Ojogho became the first Providence Health Care employee to receive an injection.

The Pfizer coronavirus vaccine is in different phases of distribution around the Northwest.

Providence reports it has received almost 4,000 doses. Spokeswoman Beth Hegde says the health system’s highest risk caregivers will be inoculated with it on Friday.
