Verne talks to Director Yvonne Johnson, and actors Jennifer Tindall (Laura), Steve Mortier (Pa), Patti Mortier (Ma), and Sophia Williams (Nellie) perform, with Music Director Annie Flood on piano.

We’re all about music on this week’s Northwest Arts Review. The Spokane Symphony’s Mateusz Wolski drops by to share insights learned during the pandemic year, Andrea Olsen fills us in on the Spokane Valley Summer Theatre’s upcoming in-person events, and we’ll meet Bozeman Symphony Orchestra composer-in-residence Scott Lee. We’ve also got music from our studio, one of the student performances recently recorded, and Classical era sounds from the Spokane Symphony’s online spring series, beginning with this Mozart.

Andrea Olsen of Spokane Valley Summer Theatre visits the studio to talk about the company's return to in-person performance, along with Collin Pittmann, Production Manager, and performers Darnelle Preston, Jayce Fortin, Gunnar Rorholm, and Alexandra Lewis, and pianist Annie Flood.

This week on Northwest Arts Review, Chris Maccini welcomes Marnie Rohrholm from SAGA grant awardee, Spokane Valley Summer Theatre, Verne Windham chats with Lieutenant Chris Cornette, leader of the Navy Band Northwest in honor of Navy Week in Spokane. Also, Nathan Weinbender offers a movie review, and Navy Band Northwest has music for us.

Yvonne AK Johnson, Executive Artistic Director of Spokane Valley Summer Theatre, stops by the studio with a preview of their season finale, the ABBA-infused musical, "Mama Mia." Also in the studio are actors Andrea Olsen (Donna), Emma Larson (Sophie), Marnie Rorholm (Tanya), Michael Muzatko (Harry), and Paul Villabrille (Sam), and a dozen members of the ensemble chorus, singing songs from the show.

Spokane Valley Summer Theatre's presents The Secret Garden opening July 21, 2017 at the CVHS Performing Arts Center.  This morning Verne talked with director Yvonne Johnson, music director David Brewster, and cast members Michael Muzatko, Andrea Olsen, Maitlin Toth, Christopher Tamayo and Noelle Fries, about the production and got a preview of several songs from the show. 

The Spokane Valley Summer Theatre's 2017 season opens Friday, June 23rd with Always, Patsy Cline. This morning, director Yvonne Johnson, music director Drew Olsen and cast member Andrea Olsen (who plays Patsy) stopped by the studio to preview the show.  

Another theater show is on the KPBX radar, and that show happens to be Spokane Valley Summer Theatre's rendition of Bring It On, The Musical. Verne had the pleasure of talking with Director Yvonne A.K. Johnson, as well as Music Director David Brewster, Amber Fiedler (playing Campbell), Emma Larson (playing Skyler), and Brittany Mendoza Pena (playing Danielle).  They gave us a preview of the show, which opens tomorrow, Thursday, August 18 and runs for one weekend only, ending on Sunday, August 21.

Today we had members of Spokane Valley Summer Theatre visit the studio to preview their upcoming production Oliver! Verne was joined by Director Yvonne Johnson, Music Director David Brewster, singer/actor Joshua Vander Plaats, and singer/actress Caryssa Murphy.  Oliver! opens Thursday, July 28th and runs through August 6th.

Opening this Friday and running for two weekends is Spokane Valley Summer Theatre's production of Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story.  The feature is Dalen Gunn, playing Buddy of course, and he was joined in the studio by Christa LaVoie, who will play Maria Elena Holly.  They talked with Verne in the studio about the show and gave us a sneak peek of some of the songs as well.  Directed by Yvonne A.K. Johnson, the show opens this Friday, July 8th at 7:30pm at Central Valley High School Performing Arts Center.
