James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone’s favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece… and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching.

The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

One of Sondheim’s most popular works, Into the Woods is a musically sophisticated show with the opportunity to feature actors adept at dark comedy. Designers will especially enjoy highlighting the fantastical elements of this magical word.

Presenting new works created by composers, songwriters, and sound artists from Gonzaga University, alongside a performance by the innovative Creative Music Lab Ensemble.

Gayle Havercroft is displaying his unique block printing pieces at Indaba Coffee Shop through April and May. He's been perfecting his skills since 2001 and especially enjoys using the Palouse as inspiration for many of his works. Gayle began adding watercolor to the block prints a few years ago. You won't want to miss seeing these.

The festival will feature a Nell Shipman Retrospective with panelists Gwyn Hervochon, BSU and Virginia Bogert, Seattle Women in Film. Later, there will be still photographs by Daniel Schaefer of the Academy Award nominated movie Train Dreams and a Q&A, by the cast and crew.

Whitworth Music presents Trombones Northwest 2026 on Saturday, April 18, from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. in Cowles Music Center.

Trombones Northwest (formerly Trombonanza) is a community-wide day of performances and teaching for trombonists of all levels, featuring internationally renowned Kenneth Thompkins, assistant professor of trombone at Michigan State University and retired principal trombone of the Detroit Symphony.
