The Spokane Folklore Society's season opening contra dance is the third Wednesday September 16 featuring live music from the Jam Band, an all volunteer group of musicians. Easy to learn dances will be taught by a variety of seasoned Spokane based callers. The Woman's Club Hall has been the site of these contra dances since 1980. A newcomer's session begins at 7:15PM followed by a two hour dance starting at 7:30PM. No experience is necessary. Singles and couples are welcomed. Dress is casual. General Admission:10. Hands on learning intensive Saturday/Sunday classes - Wernick Method Classes teach real bluegrass jamming! If you play guitar, mandolin, banjo, fiddle, bass, or dobro… you can be part of a bluegrass jam. Intro to Jamming session offered Friday 3-6 pm.

The Spokane Folklore Society hosts a contra and English country dance Saturday October 10 at the East Spokane Grange starting at 7PM. Caller Bev Young from Missoula will offer an evening of both contra and English country dances. Don't worry, she will teach every dance. As for English Country dances, think Jane Austin or Bridgerton. They are fun and easy to learn. Music will be provided by the Prestwold Orchestra featuring two violins, flute, guitar and bass.
