Learn how international aid programs help prevent conflict, stabilize communities and improve global health. This free event will include a short presentation followed by discussion on how Spokane residents can advocate for effective global poverty solutions.
Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson is bringing The Cosmic Perspective to the First Interstate Center for the Arts on Thursday, May 7, 2026.
Dr. Tyson has written and continues to write for the public. Among Tyson’s fifteen books is Origins: Fourteen Billion Years of Cosmic Evolution; the companion book to the PBS NOVA four-part mini-series Origins, in which Tyson served as on-camera host. The program premiered in September 2004 cementing Dr. Tyson as a household name.
For five seasons, Tyson appeared as the on-camera host of PBS NOVA’s spinoff program NOVA ScienceNOW, which is an accessible look at the frontier of all the science that shapes the understanding of our place in the universe.
After a long and successful career as a mystery writer spanning nearly 50 years, William Kasinski has hit a protracted and unsettling fallow period. Does this mark a temporary setback or the end of his professional work life? At his agent’s insistence, Kasinski agrees to attempt a memoir in hopes of reigniting his career, and to this end, returns to his hometown to revisit his beginnings. Once there, triggered by an encounter with an up-and-coming Young Adult novelist, William must reckon with long-ignored events of his youth, and their impact on his journey.

Gayle Havercroft is displaying his unique block printing pieces at Indaba Coffee Shop through April and May. He's been perfecting his skills since 2001 and especially enjoys using the Palouse as inspiration for many of his works. Gayle began adding watercolor to the block prints a few years ago. You won't want to miss seeing these. Come for the art! Stay for the coffee!
BellaCristo is a community handbell choir with ringers from the Spokane and Coeur d'Alene area. Our May concerts are focused on music from movies, Broadway musicals, and TV themes. Some of our songs include selections from Phantom of the Opera, Star Trek, Les Miserables, Puttin’ on the Ritz, Disney and Pixar animated movies, and several more. These concerts are free, run less than an hour, and are designed to appeal to all ages. Both locations are handicapped accessible.
Cascadia Music presents "A Celebration of American Music: A Concert in Honor of America’s 250th" Friday May 8 and Saturday May 9 @ 7 PM at the Methow Valley Community Center Gym. Led by Directors Terry and Pam Hunt, The Pipestone Orchestra, Cascadia Chorale and Pipestone Youth Orchestra will perform an exciting and diverse program of Jazz, orchestral and folk compositions by Gershwin, Aaron Copeland, Paul Simon, Aretha Franklin and others. The concert of will span generations and regions of the United States, with large ensemble pieces as well as solos and small groups. VERY special guests Laura Love (vocals), John Weeks (fiddle) and Brian Alley (banjo) will also be featured during the show.
The spring concert exemplifies Cascadia’s mission to “create connection in a divided world by sharing the joys of music.” With these amazing artists blending with over 30 singers and 35 musicians, ages 12-82, from all walks of our valley community, this event promises to bring smiles, reflections, and perhaps a few tears as we celebrate American music and composers from sea to shining sea.
Beer, wine, non-alcoholic beverages and some snacks will be available for purchase.
